Buddies

All of our Reception children are allocated a Year 5 buddy when they join us. Our older buddies help Reception children to settle into school life and routines, and orientate themselves. They meet them at playtimes to share time together and to encourage and help them to make new friends. The children are taught the importance of 'valuing each other' by learning to care for and support one another. Our year 5 children learn to take on new responsibilities and develop their social and communication skills. It is a role that they find very rewarding and special, and continue into Year 6 when their buddy moves up to Year 1. In fact, many of our former pupils are still in contact with their buddies and we are sure that many have become friends for life.
